The Classical Music Group meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 10am to12 noon, with a break for refreshments. The aim of the Group is to enjoy listening to all forms of classical music, learn about pieces of music, composers and artists, attend concerts and share experiences.

Members provide programmes of music for the others to listen to and comment on. It is surprising how often we are introduced to pieces and artists we did not know. We appreciate that not all members can produce a programme, but if there is music members would like to hear, we try to incorporate it into a future programme.

The Group celebrated its 5th Birthday on 4th July 2018 with a programme of American music on what was Independence Day. Over the years we have listened to a wide range of music presented by 17 different members.  We have enjoyed Elgar, Copland, Dvorak, Piano pieces, Seasonal music at Christmas, Russian Composers, Scottish Music and Musicians, Glen Gould, Woodwind pieces, Film and Choral music, a range of Voices  and mixed programmes of members' personal choices of music for inspiration and memories.  Each month is different and there are many pleasant surprises and interesting comments on the choices being played

In addition members have attended concerts at Thoresby Hall, Lincoln Cathedral, Lincoln Drill Hall, Sheffield City Hall and The Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham. In June 2018, members helped Askham Parish Church to organise a concert by postgraduate students from the Northern Royal College of music in Manchester. Five students gave a programme of Fun Music for a Summers Evening to a much appreciative sell out audience.

Currently we have 20 members with an average attendance of 17, thirteen of whom have been with us from the beginning. Regretfully we are unable accept new members due to restrictions on space and reproduction equipment.
